Good Morning Sisters and Brothers,

Our Brothers and Sisters who work for the City of Toronto need us to support them by sending an urgent message to our respective City Councillors.  Rob Ford and company, are pushing to privatize garbage collection services.  Please check out the link below to the Keep it Public campaign for more information.   It is imperative that residents of Toronto contact their City Councillor today, in advance of the debate tomorrow at City Hall.  Contact information http://app.toronto.ca/im/council/councillors.jsp or just call 311 and learn which ward you reside in, the name of the councillors and their contact information.   Please do all that you can to also ensure that members in the local are aware of the need to mobilize support for public services at the municipal level as well and have their friends and families also contact their respective councillors.   ....and if you can, please participate in person too!   (From the Toronto and York Region Labour Council)

COME TO CITY HALL MAY 17TH

SAY NO TO GARBAGE PRIVATIZATION!

Mayor Rob Ford's plan to privatize all recycling and garbage collection west of Yonge Street goes to a vote of Toronto City Council on Tuesday May 17th.

When this scheme was brought for public input to the Works Committee, not one member of the public supported it.  Even more disturbing is that City Council is being asked to waive its legal obligation to review the final deal - a seven year contract worth over $200 million. And this is just the first step in replacing over one thousand city workers with private contractors paying lower wages and reduced benefits. With the City Manager in charge now jumping ship to work for one of the big waste contractors, and the Toronto Environmental Alliance challenging the figures he produced, this issue is getting hotter every day.

Come out to fill the City Council chambers on Tuesday May 17th starting at 9:30 am and all the way through the evening. Before that, phone your City Councillor and urge them to vote no to privatization!
